Winemaker's Notes

The 2018 Pinot Gris is lively and refreshing. Beautiful bright aromas of ripe pineapple, Meyer lemon and honeysuckle flower mingle in the glass. The palate continues with fresh lemon and orange zest followed by a touch of smooth quince, which leads into a vibrant lingering acidity. Pair with pan seared tilapia in a silky lemon and herb butter sauce, or alone as an aperitif

John's Notes

Four Graces Pinot Gris 2018 is probably the fourth bottle I’ve tried from this producer in the past year, and I’ve been quite impressed each time. On the nose, enticingly prickly notes of fresh grass, lime pith, Anjou Pear, gooseberry, and white flowers deliver a zestiness along the lines of NZ Sauvignon Blanc.  The palate is traditional Willamette, and quite delicious with its Medium+ intensity notes of baked pear, juicy lemon, green apple, fresh minerality, crisp acidity, and hints of toast

  • Named for the four daughters of the founders, The Four Graces are sustainably farmed, well-tended vineyards with the goal of producing rich, elegant, delicious, and complex wines
  • The Black family purchased an existing vineyard in the Dundee Hills of the Willamette Valley in 2003 as a family retreat, and in 2005 the Blacks purchased the Doe Ridge property in Yamhill Carlton to continue the growth of the brand. They chose a site in a differing appellation to add complexity and variety

  • The 2018 vintage started with a relatively mild spring with average rain fall. What was surprising was the lack of rain in the early summer. 2018 happened to be one of the driest summers on record in the Dundee Hills AVA and the Willamette Valley. Fortunately, although we were drier than normal, temperatures stayed modest. As we came into fall and time to harvest the dry conditions continued and we were able to pick the Pinot Gris when we wanted to


  • The grapes for The Four Graces Pinot Gris come from our Foley Family Estate vineyard as well as Eola Springs, Olson and Huntington Hills Vineyards
  • The Foley Family Estate features 38 acres of Pinot Noir, 12 acres of Pinot Gris and 5 acres of Pinot Blanc. The unique Jory basaltic soils and the valley’s microclimate provide just enough of the struggle necessary to create our Pinot’s exceptional balance and complexity
  • We use only sustainable farming techniques, with a sincere dedication to care for the land


  • The wine is hand-crafted in small lots using traditional Burgundian techniques coupled with the most modern technologies in winemaking
  • All wines are created in a temperature-controlled facility under pristine conditions with technologically advanced equipment
  • The wine is aged for 2 months in used French oak, then bottled and stored under optimal conditions until ready to be released

Wine Enthusiast (91): Fruity and rich, this wine offers a light but pleasant oaky scent. It is buttery and textured on the palate, with flavors of green apple and melon

Vinous (89): Limpid yellow-gold. Fresh pear and honeydew aromas are sharpened by subtle lemon zest and ginger nuances. Silky and broad on the palate, offering juicy Meyer lemon and pear nectar flavors that turn firmer on the back half. Finishes on a gently floral note, with good length and a hint of bitter citrus pith
