Description

Each of the vineyards chosen for this wine offers the best expression of its respective appellation, carefully blended to achieve balance, complexity, and richness of flavor

Variety: Pinot Noir
Region: Coastal California
Winemaker: Meiomi
Size: 750 ml
Alcohol: 13.7%

Winemaker's Notes

A rich garnet color, the wine reveals lifted fruit aromas of bright strawberry and jammy fruit, mocha, vanilla, and toasty oak. Expressive boysenberry, blackberry, dark cherry, juicy strawberry, and toasty mocha flavors lend complexity to the soft, plush palate. The well-integrated oak provides structure and depth seldom seen in Pinot Noir

John's Notes

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had multiple customers ask for sweet reds; not as sweet as a Port, not cloying, but just a little sweet. Meiomi’s Pinot Noir 2019 fits the bill nicely.  With 15 g/L residual sugar, it has notes of juicy, perfectly ripe fruit with streaks of sweetness all in nice balance with the acidity and tannins.  Thanks for the requests!

Nerdy Details

Winemaker: Meiomi, winemaker Jason Becker

  • Jason aspires to create wines that are meant to be enjoyed while laughing and sharing a delicious meal with friends and family

Variety: Pinot Noir

Region:  Monterey, Santa Barbara, and Sonoma Counties, California

  • Monterey County (59%): Dark plum, savory edge, black tea leaves, fleshy texture
  • Santa Barbara County (22%): Bright red fruit, baking spices, cranberry, creamy viscosity
  • Sonoma County (19%): Bing cherry and strawberry, earthiness, mid-palate weight

Climate/Vintage:

  • The 2019 vintage was a moderate growing season throughout spring and summer. Due to cooler temperatures, harvest started slightly later than normal, around the first week of September. Consistent and moderate temperatures allowed harvest to maintain a steady pace, where it finished in early November. The near-perfect temperatures and lack of precipitation allowed the grapes to fully ripen and be harvested at the optimal time, giving our Pinot Noir beautiful color, texture, and flavor

Viticulture/Winemaking:

  • To create our signature Meiomi profle, we grow our grapes in cool-climate regions along California’s coastline that have proven to be ideal for Pinot Noir—Monterey, Sonoma, and Santa Barbara counties. Fruit from all three exceptional maritime regions is blended for richly layered, well-balanced, and expressive wines
  • During fermentation, both punch-downs and pump-overs were used to ensure balanced extraction of flavor, aromatics, structure, and color
  • We aged for 6 months in French oak to allow the sweet and structural influences from the oak to mingle seamlessly with the rich fruit and ripe tannins. The result is an evocative wine that is well-balanced, richly flavored, and deliciously complex

Alcohol: 13.7%

pH:  3.8

Residual Sugar:  15 g/L

Pairs Well With: Mushroom pizza, roast lamb, pasta with red sauce
