Winemaker's Notes

Composed of Syrah, Petite Sirah and Souzao, the 2018 showing of Freakshow Red unveils aromas of ripe plum, espresso and salted caramel on the nose. Medium in body, flavors of crushed summer berries, sweet tobacco and allspice are carried through by a lengthy, guided finish

John's Notes

Aromas of ripe black fruit including purple plum, blackberry, and black cherry intertwine with herbal tea, oregano, white pepper, and cinnamon on the nose. The same black fruit and spicy/herbal notes follow on the palate coupled with black licorice, toasty oak, tar, cigar box, and cocoa nibs

I enjoyed this bottle with good friends alongside homemade pasta with Bolognese sauce. Thanks KS and CS!

Climate/Vintage:

  • Considered part of California’s Central Valley, Lodi is located east of the very large Sacramento Delta, and accordingly receives the cooling breeze influence from the San Francisco Bay that moderate its hot Mediterranean climate

Viticulture/Winemaking:

  • Certi­fied Sustainable Grape Growing by the Lodi Rules Program, a set of over 100 standards that account for all aspects of making quality wine in a sustainable manner: environmental, social, and economic
  • We perform a traditional red wine fermentation where we leave the skin in contact with the juice to get a full extraction, full color, full body red wine
  • After the wine is pressed off, we send it directly to barrel for aging in mostly French oak barrels with just a little bit of American oak to give it an extra element of complexity
  • Aged for 16 months in French & American oak, 65% used, 35% new
  • Bottling date: May 8, 2020
