Winemaker's Notes

A classic Provençal Rosé, Fleur de Mer opens with its attractive coral pink hue and delicate aromas of cherry, wildflowers and fresh-cut citrus. On the complex, beautifully balanced palate, a swirl of watermelon, wild strawberry, peach and raspberry fruit notes blend seamlessly with hints of herbs and sea spray. Softly textured throughout, Fleur de Mer finishes with a zest of crisp, mouthwatering acidity and lingering suggestions of red fruit

John's Notes

Enticing aromas of fresh picked strawberries, raspberries, and white flowers lead the way to a palate with those same red fruits plus bright acidity, a hint of pink grapefruit, and just the right amount of minerality. I had it with seared shrimp – ridiculously good

Nerdy Details

Winemaker: Fleur de Mer, winemaker Florian Lacroux

  • Fleur de Mer represents the rolling hills of Provence filled with vineyards and lavender that unfold alongside the sea and permeate the air with tranquil aromas. Fleur de Mer is a celebration of Provence and is evocative of the region’s distinctive charming blend of vineyards, gardens, and coastline
  • Provence has been making Rosé style wines for 2,600 years, tracing back to before the Roman Empire. Today, Fleur de Mer is made by Winemaker Florian Lacroux, who builds on this long tradition by partnering with a traditional grower’s co-operative with more than 50 years of experience, Les Maîtres Vignerons de Saint-Tropez
  • Fleur de Mer translates to “Flower of the Sea”, and its lavender label is a nod to the lavender hillsides that are so much a part of the fabric of Provence

Variety: 43% Grenache, 23% Cinsault, 12% Carignan, 7% Mourvedre, 15% Other Select Red Varieties

Region: Côtes de Provence, France

  • The 2019 growing season was marked by unusually high temperatures in June, but otherwise a pleasant season yielding very high-quality grapes. Winter rains refreshed the soils before a mild spring. After the early summer heat, conditions cooled considerably, allowing grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. This translated to fresh, ripe red-fruit characteristics and cleansing, soft acidity in our Fleur de Mer Rosé

  • The grapes for Fleur de Mer are grown in France’s A.O.C. Côtes de Provence, in what they call the “golden triangle” between Cuers, Pierrefeu and Puget Ville
  • It is here that the vine roots plunge deep below the dry clay soils and limestone gravel, called gravoches, to reach water
  • The grapes selected for our 2019 Fleur de Mer Rosé were ripened to ideal maturity, ensuring a delicate balance of sugar, acidity, aroma and color
  • Freshly harvested grapes were direct-pressed to preserve the bright, concentrated fruit characteristics and produce our pleasing coral pink hue

Wilfred Wong (92): A part of my life always stays in the south of France, where I spent a little time. In those brief and memorable moments, I recall how nice it was just to lay back and take off my shoes and take in the beautiful sunshine. The 2019 Fleur de Mer Côtes de Provence gives me a chance to re-live those moments. This wine is bright, elegant, and persistent. Its enticing aromas and flavors of wild strawberries and dried earth are lasting and evocative. April 11, 2020
