Ecard Savigny-les-Beaune 2015 BLOWOUT SALE!

Premier Cru Pinot Noir,

In stock

In style, it is closer to Pommard than the traditional light cherry and raspberry that characterizes much Savigny.  Ecards wines age well, but are sufficiently fruity to drink young

Variety: Premier Cru Pinot Noir
Region: Burgundy, France
Winemaker:  Domaine Ecard
Size: 750 ml
Alcohol: 13.0%

Winemaker's Notes

The wine offers delicate notes of black fruits. A powerful and rich mouthfeel, full flavors of cherries and blackberries with hints of spice and pepper. Full-bodied with a beautiful texture and velvety tannins. A very charming wine

John's Notes

We featured this bottle in April and received great reviews from our customers. Unfortunately, “John from Purchasing” bought way too many cases.  Since John also owns the company, he authorized a BLOWOUT SALE to move the remaining stock

Originally featured for $51.99 (retail is even higher), we’ve dropped the price to $45.99. Yes, $45.99 for a great Premier Cru!  Get some before they’re gone

Nerdy Details

Winemaker:  Domaine Ecard

  • The Domaine dates back to before 1789 and produces some of the best Premiers Crus in Savigny
  • Owner Maurice Ecard, who is now retired, was considered by many experts to be the father of the appellation.  His wines are now produced by Vincent Sauvestere
  • Through his family’s traditional winemaking skills, passed down from generation to generation, and his years of oenological studies, Vincent advocates:
    • Expression of the unique terroir characteristics from each individual vineyard by using traditional winemaking methods
    • Well-structured and easy drinking Burgundies
      – Pleasing to the eye
      – Soft and supple flavors
      – Lingering aftertaste with excellent ageing attributes
    • Vincent’s constant aim is quality and respect for all wines

Variety:  Pinot Noir, Premier Cru

Region: Savigny-les-Beaune, Burgundy, France

  • Savigny-les-Beaune is located in the north of the Côte de Beaune, slightly southwest of the Corton hill and directly south of Pernand-Vergelesses
  • It’s no coincidence that Savigny-les-Beaune is excellent for red wine: Pinot Noir does better in cooler climates, and the Savigny-les-Beaune vineyards offer a combination of good weather conditions, good slope, and well-concentrated soil

  • The Domaine is cultivated through organic methods and produces wines that purely and distinctly reflect the terroir
  • The yields are never over 35 hl/ha
  • The vines are pruned and when fully mature, harvested by manual selection

Winemaking:  Vinification involves 75 to 100% destemming, a classic fermentation, pigeage (punching down the cap), racking of the gross lees, and 15-18 months in oak (15% new from Damy Cooperage)

Alcohol: 13.0%

Pairs With: Grilled pork loin, mushroom and Swiss burgers on the grill, herb-roasted chicken

Wine Enthusiast (92): This wine has a bitter edge from extraction but it feels as though, with the weight of the fruit, it will soften and broaden as it matures. Plenty of bright cherry flavors should help it on its way. Drink from 2023. Roger Voss, 12/31/18
