Displaying the lushness and balance that define great Cabernet Sauvignon, this inviting wine features layers of blackberry, black cherry and blueberry, along with notes of dark chocolate and fresh spearmint. On the palate, the bright, juicy fruit flavors are framed by rich, refined tannins that carry the wine to a long, satisfying finish

John's Notes

This Cab Sauv dominant blend reflects the elegance of Sonoma County and the cooling influences that affect its climate, while Merlot, Zin, Petite Sirah, Syrah, and Petit Verdot add layers of complexity that I enjoy – however I hope I don’t get this one on a blind taste test!

Lifted notes of purple plum, black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, vanilla, cigar box, and violets greet the nose. The palate has equally energetic notes of juicy purple plum, blackberry, and red cherry plus a swirl of vanilla, a touch of cigar box, and a seam of acidity all culminating with a dark chocolate, mocha finish.  Decant for 30 minutes

  • The 2018 growing season began with a cool winter, and just enough rain to replenish the vineyards. A temperate spring followed by mild weather throughout the summer allowed the grapes to ripen at a very measured pace, something we love to see in our vineyards. After several years of early harvests, the relatively mild weather and a healthy sized crop led to a return to more normal harvest times. After enjoying abundant hangtime to fully ripen, the quality of the grapes was extremely impressive. Overall, our 2018 reds are lush and complex, with great color and concentration

Viticulture:  Fruit for the Decoy program comes from a mix of Estate vineyards and top grower vineyards with a Sonoma County focus

  • Grapes for the Decoy Cabernet Sauvignon are all hand-sorted
  • To benefit from the diversity of Decoy’s great fruit sources, Dana and her team do as many as 150 individual fermentations each vintage with many lots as small as 5 tons
  • Hands on practices like open-top punch downs and lees stirring are applied
  • Aged in 100% French oak
