Our Sauvignon Blanc has bright aromas and flavors of citrus, guava and pear with hints of lemongrass.  It is well balanced with crisp acidity leading to a fresh finish

On a 2016 trip to Sonoma, I was fortunate enough to spend part of an afternoon at Cline Cellars with friends.  And as its literature suggests, it truly is a family-operated winery with a relaxed, yet energetic vibe that’s easy to like.  In the farmhouse tasting room, there were more locals than tourists, and more Moms/Dads with their kids than almost any tasting room I’ve seen.  It truly felt like you were part of extended family spending an afternoon together.  Most enjoyable

  • Cline Family Cellars is a family-owned and operated winery founded by Fred and Nancy Cline in 1982 in Oakley, CA. The winery facilities were relocated in 1991 to the Sonoma Valley, on a 350-acre estate in the Carneros district
  • The Cline winery and vineyards are built on a foundation of deeply rooted respect for the land and love of winemaking
  • Instead of using herbicides to kill weeds between the rows, Cline either hand-hoes or brings in sheep and goats to eat the weeds and deposit “their own little fertilizer”

Climate/Vintage:

  • Given its proximity to the Pacific, the Sonoma Coast AVA is heavily influenced by the cold ocean winds such that vineyards are often planted on south facing slopes to maximize sunlight exposure and therefore enable the grapes to fully ripen

Viticulture:

  • Grapes for our Sauvignon Blanc primarily come from two vineyards
  • The largest share is from a vineyard between the Russian River and Jimtown in the Alexander Valley. This area experiences warm days and cool nights which contribute to the grapes’ bright citrus notes. The soil ranges from gravel to deep loam
  • The second vineyard is planted near the town of Knightsen in Contra Costa County, just south of the Sacramento River Delta. The soils in these vineyards are clay loam and the vineyards benefit from warm days and cool nights
  • Harvest date: August 20 – September 10, 2019

Winemaking:

  • Grapes were picked and destemmed before being sent to a tank press where the juice was gently extracted
  • Juice was settled for 24 hours before being racked off solids for fermentation
  • Fermentation proceeded at cool temperatures to preserve the fruit, with a cultured wine yeast being added to bring out the fruity character of the varietal
  • Once fermentation was complete, the wine was chilled and filtered before being bottled

The Tasting Panel (92): Lemon verbena fills the air with its citrusy-herb perfume. On the palate, it is augmented by sage and tarragon with a salty lime zest. White grapefruit shows up mid-way, along with a bevy of white flowers. Edgy, lean and crisp.  11/2020
