We have blended grapes from High Valley (dark, deep, rich) with Red Hills (bright red fruit, elegance) that together create a complex, classic Cabernet Sauvignon

Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
Region: Lake County, California
Winemaker: Shannon Ridge
Size: 750 ml
Alcohol: 15.4%

Winemaker's Notes

Cassis, blackberry, leather and chaparral combine aromatically with flavors of toasted oak, boysenberry pie and vanilla. The wine has great mid-palate weight and complexity while maintaining elegance and texture

John's Notes

Lifted aromas of purple plum, black and red cherry, black currant, vanilla, nutmeg, and roasted coffee beans lead to a smooth entry on the palate full of those same ripe fruit notes plus blueberry, black licorice, and chewy tannins with a toasty finish

Decant for 30 minutes before serving

Nerdy Details

Winemaker: Shannon Ridge, winemaker Annette Hoff

  • Shannon Ridge is a family-owned vineyard and winery located in Lake County, California
  • In 1995, owner Clay Shannon discovered a magnificent piece of property in the hills overlooking Clear Lake in Lake County, thirty-five miles north of Napa’s famed vineyards. Clay’s vision was simple: “We wanted to grow the best fruit in the world,” says Clay, “but we wanted to do it in a way that made us happy living there”

Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon

Region: Lake County, California

Climate/Vintage:

  • Bordering the northern side of Napa and the northeastern edge of Sonoma, the Lake County appellation is part of California’s North Coast wine region. Lake County generally has a Mediterranean-like climate of hot dry summers and cool moist winters

Viticulture/Winemaking:

  • Perched on ridges of lean volcanic soils at altitudes of 2,100 to 2,400 feet above sea level, this wild land is cooled by steady winds off Clear Lake and from the higher peaks just to the north
  • Our vineyards are certified sustainably farmed thus producing the finest fruit possible. For Clay Shannon, sustainability wasn’t some philosophical concept; it is the way we live our lives
  • At Shannon Ridge, we live in harmony with mother nature. Our sustainability practices integrate a flock of roughly 1500 sheep that clean the vineyards, remove the excess canopy, and reduce the need for chemicals, while providing natural fertilizer.  The vineyards feed the sheep, the sheep feed the vines; lamb feeds the people, people drink the wine and wear wool
  • Vineyards: 84% High Valley Appellation, 16% Red Hills Appellation
  • 12 months oak aging (20% new)

Alcohol:  15.4%

pH:  3.74

Pairs Well With: Ribeye steak, beef enchiladas, grilled hamburgers

Reviews

Wilfred Wong (90): The 2018 Shannon Ridge Barrel Cabernet Sauvignon is packed and elevated. This wine is loaded with oak, black fruit, and coconut in its aromas and flavors. Try it with the first cut from an oven-roasted prime rib. April 26, 2021
